How to store research peptides

Store lyophilised vials at −20 °C, sealed, away from light and moisture; they remain stable for a year or more. Once reconstituted, refrigerate at 2–8 °C, keep out of light and use within 8–12 weeks. Never freeze a reconstituted solution and never leave a vial at room temperature for long.

Lyophilised vials

Freeze-drying removes water, which is what makes peptides degrade. Kept cold, sealed and dark, a lyophilised vial keeps its content stable for a long time; the certificate of analysis documents the batch at the time of testing. Bring the vial to room temperature before opening so condensation does not form on the powder.

Reconstituted solution

Water restarts the chemistry. Bacteriostatic water slows microbial growth but not hydrolysis or oxidation, so the practical window is 8–12 weeks refrigerated. Peptides with cysteine or methionine oxidise faster; copper complexes like GHK-Cu are comparatively stable. Draw only what is needed and return the vial to the fridge.

Freeze-thaw

Freezing a solution forms ice crystals that can shear peptide chains and concentrate the peptide in the remaining liquid. Avoid it. If a protocol needs frozen aliquots, freeze single-use portions once and do not refreeze.
